In early 2007, XL Renewables established its Algae Development Center (ADC) in Casa Grande, Arizona. The ADC is located on 2.5 acres of land and provides a facility to test production system design and operation, algae variety development, harvest technologies, and system optimization.
The ADC is managed by George McNeely, Operations Manager, and Michael Bellefeuille, a micro-biologist with over 6 years algae research experience. Michael recieved his Masters Degree from Arizona State University and has published work in CO2 sequestration and high-value caratenoid production with microalgae.
Production from the ADC is being used for animal feeding trials. Also, to supply other researchers who are developing production and processing technologies.
